This icon was originally from Constantinople and then placed in the main church of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi. In 1730, however, without any explanation, it disappeared from its place and was found in the church of the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos. The fathers at Vatopedi thought some act of sacrilege had occurred, and once the icon was returned, they implemented strict security measures. After only a little time had passed, the icon again was missing from its place. Shortly thereafter, news reached Vatopedi from the fathers at Xenophontos that the icon had returned to its corresponding place in the main church of their monastery. The fathers at Vatopedi were convinced that a miracle had occurred and did not ask for its return, not wanting to resist the will of the Mother of God. They even went to the Monastery of Xenophontos to venerate the icon. For a long time afterward, they continued to send oil and candles to its new place of rest where it remains to this day.
