On December 6th, 1892, there was a landslide of large rocks from Samareia mountain, which crushed the port. Among the ruins, the only part of the wall left standing was that which protected the icon. When the monks removed the icon, this too collapsed. A fisherman, who was sleeping nearby the shrine to the Mother of God, was also miraculously left unharmed.
