Icon with water-gilding on natural linden wood. The wood has been prepared in heat and gilded with gold leaf 24K, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg-tempera paints for best performance and endurance of colors used. The colors were chosen based on studies and analyses of older icons by renowned iconographers, after ARTIS had first conducted conservation treatments on them.

Saint Paisios of Mount Athos was born to pious parents in Farasa of Cappadocia. After his studies, he chose to imitate Christ and took up carpentry. Afterwards, he went to Mount Athos, at the age of 29 years old.  He became a member of the brotherhood at the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou, where, on March 27th, 1954 AD, he was tonsured a monk. He conversed with many Saints who appeared before him. He beheld his own guardian angel, and during worship he heard angelic hymns and shown himself with heavenly light. In 1966 AD, he became gravely ill, and while he was recovering, he stayed at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Evangelist in Souroti. In 1979 AD, he took up residence at the abandoned cell of Panagouda on Mount Athos, where he received many people. He reposed on Tuesday, July 12th, 1994 AD and was buried at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Evangelist in Souroti of Thessaloniki. Even after his death, Saint Paisios continues to work many miracles to this very day.
