Saint Alexander lived during the reign of Constantine the Great. He is numbered among the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council, which was convened in Nicaea in 325 to condemn the heresy of Arius. Afterwards, Alexander, though he was already 70 years old, went on to travel to Thrace, Macedonia, Thessaly and the rest of Greece teaching and spreading the orthodox doctrine of the Council of Nicaea. Later, as Patriarch, Alexander responded worthily to the difficult conditions of the times. Saint Alexander peacefully departed this life in 337. His memory is honoured on the 30th of August.
