Patriarch Nephon received his monastic tonsure in Epidaurus. On Mount Athos, he was ordained to the diaconate and then the priesthood at the Monastery of Dionysiou. While there, he was called upon to become Metropolitan of Thessaloniki and, later, he even ascended to the Ecumenical Throne. His memory is honoured on the 11th of August.

Patriarch Nephon came from the Peloponnese. He became close with a monk named Anthony and he himself became a monk in Epidaurus. After the death of his elder, he went to the castle of Narda, where he met a virtuous Athonite monk, Zacharias. He went with him to the Monastery of the Theotokos in Ochrid. When Zacharias was elected Archbishop of Ochrid, Nephon departed for Mount Athos, where he was ordained a deacon and priest at the Monastery of Dionysiou. After some time, he was called upon to become Metropolitan of Thessaloniki and from there, after the death of Symeon, he became Ecumenical Patriarch. He was forced from his throne twice and he took refuge in Vlachia, From there, he would go to the Monastery of Dionysiou on Mount Athos. When he was called to take up the Ecumenical Throne for the third time, he did not go and he died at the Monastery, having a lived a full ascetic life. His memory is honoured on the 11th of August.
