Saint Martin lived in the 4th century AD. He was from Savoria of Pannonia. At a young age he was nurtured by the word of the Lord, while at the age of 15, he enlisted in the army. When he was with the army in Amiens, he met a beggar, who asked him for alms. The Saint, having only his uniform and weapons, took off his cloak and gave it to the beggar to keep warm. The next night the Lord appeared to him in his sleep and said to him, showing him the mantle, "Martin, even though you are still a catechumen, you warmed me by giving your mantle to the beggar." After receiving the appropriate education, he became a clergyman and then a bishop in Tours. He was distinguished for the holy life he led and the great services he offered to his flock. In the village of Kandin, he became seriously ill and gave up his spirit. His memory is commemorated on October 12. Work of the iconographer Lazaros Pechlivanidis.
