Saint Charalampus was a priest in Magnesia of Asia Minor. In 198 AD, when Severus was waging unrelenting persecutions against the Christians, Lucian, the eparch of Magnesia, arrested the Saint and demanded that he renounce his faith. Not only did the Saint refuse, but he confessed his dedication to Christ before the eparch and declared that no matter what torture he may be forced to endure, he would never renounce his faith in the Church. This only intensified the rage inside Lucian’s evil soul so that he ordered his soldiers make the elderly priest go through horrible tortures. In the end, he ordered the beheading of the Saint. Through his suffering, Saint Charalampus received the unfading crown of glory at the age of 113 years old. His memory is honoured on the 10th of February.
