Saint Paisios of Mount Athos was born to pious parents in Farasa of Cappadocia. After his studies, he chose to imitate Christ and took up carpentry. Afterwards, he went to Mount Athos, at the age of 29 years old. He became a member of the brotherhood at the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou, where, on March 27th, 1954 AD, he was tonsured a monk. He conversed with many Saints who appeared before him. He beheld his own guardian angel, and during worship he heard angelic hymns and shown himself with heavenly light. In 1966 AD, he became gravely ill, and while he was recovering, he stayed at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Evangelist in Souroti. In 1979 AD, he took up residence at the abandoned cell of Panagouda on Mount Athos, where he received many people. He reposed on Tuesday, July 12th, 1994 AD and was buried at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Evangelist in Souroti of Thessaloniki.
