Prince Saint Oleg Romanovich of Briansk was the grandson of Prince Saint Michael of Tsernikov, the martyr. Prince Oleg and his father, Prince Roman Mikhailovich of Briansk, took part in the war against Lithuania in 1274. Immediately afterwards, he resigned from his princely office and became a monk with the name Basil at the monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Briansk. It is worth noting that this monastery was built with his own help. The holy prince died there in 1285, after years of strict ascetical practice, and he was buried in the monastery church.
