Saint Nicephorus was born Italy and lived during the 11th century AD. He converted to the Orthodox faith and abandoned his homeland and family out of love for the truth and moved to Byzantium. After the false union with the Latin Church at the Council of Lyons, which was signed by the Emperor Michael IX Palaeologus, he was condemned to exile. Desiring to hold fast to the true faith, he was tonsured a monk in one of the most isolated parts of Mount Athos. He was distinguished among the ascetics of Athos. He wrote treatises dealing with issues surrounding extreme mindfulness during prayer, keeping the soul above worldly matters, and unceasing prayer. He reposed in peace and is commemorated by the Church on the 4th of May. Work of ARTIS GILDING AND RESTORING.
