Saint Arsenius the Cappadocian was born in Farasa of Cappadocia around the year 1840 AD. At a young age, he and his brother Vlasios became orphans and thus were brought into the care of their aunt. A miraculous event inspired in him the desire to become a monk. At around 26 years old, he went to the Holy Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Zindzi-Dere, where he was ordained deacon and he was sent back to Farasa to teach abandoned children how to read and write. In his thirtieth year of age, he was ordained to the priesthood in Caesarea and given the title of Archimandrite and the blessing to hear confessions. Besides his other gifts, he had the grace of clairvoyance. He knew in advance the time of his death and that it would occur on an island. Three days before his repose, the Theotokos came and showed him around all of Mount Athos, which he had always desired to see but had never been able to, and she told him that in three days he would be brought before the Lord. He reposed in peace on the 10th of November, 1924 AD in Corfu. Work of ARTIS GILDING AND RESTORING.
