Saint Anastasius lived during the 7th century AD in the village of Ray in the province of Rasnuni. He was the son of the wizard Bab. His original name was Magundat. When the Persians conquered Jerusalem in 614 AD, they also took the Holy Cross with them back to Persia. On account of the many miracles that the Cross worked there, many Persians became interested in learning about the new religion, including Magundat. For this reason, he went to Jerusalem, where he was baptised and tonsured a monk at the Monastery of Saint Justin, where he took the new name Anastasius. Afterwards, he visited Caesarea, where the magistrate Marzavana was informed that he had become a Christian and ordered that he be tortured. After enduring many sufferings, the pagans beheaded him. His martyrdom occurred in 628 AD alongside that of 70 other Christian martyrs. His memory is honoured on the 24th of January. Work of the iconographic studio of the Brotherhood Ch.E.
