The Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple is one of the great feasts of the Mother of God in the ecclesiastical year. The Mother of God was born to elderly parents, Joachim and Anna, who had prayed for many years that God grant them a child and, in exchange, they pledged that they would dedicate the child to service at His Temple. When the young Mary turned 3 years old, her parents led her to the Temple of God and presented her to the High Priest Zachariah. Zachariah brought her into the sanctuary of the Temple, where the girl remained for 12 years. In this way, the Theotokos, because of the vow of her mother, was dedicated to God. The luminous feast of the Entrance of the Theotokos is celebrated on the 21st of November. Work of the Mount Athos monk Jacob.
