In this icon, all of the monasteries and important figures in the history of Mount Athos are depicted, as well as some of the miracles which have taken place there and scenes from daily life on the Holy Mountain. At the centre of the icon is the Mother of God, holding in her hands the Holy Belt. At her feet, we see the Athonite Saints, Peter and Athanasius, in prayer. In the inner circle framing the icon, we see the founders of the various Monasteries and the Saints honoured at each of these Monasteries respectively. In the second circle of the icon, we see sixteen of the of twenty Monasteries of Mount Athos, while the other four are found at four different points outside the circle. It should be noted that at the top of the icon, Christ is depicted as the Great Co-Creator of the Universe. At the two top corners of the icon, we find Saints Nicholas and George, who are considered Guardians of the Holy Mountain. Below Saint George, important scenes from the daily life of the Mountain are depicted, such as ascetical obedience to an elder, the confession of a hermit, the cultivation of the earth, cooking, the art of icon painting, etc. There are similar images of life on Mount Athos below Saint Nicholas, while Karyes, Sarai and Panagouda, the cell of Saint Paisios, are also all prominently depicted.
