An exact copy of the icon of Saint Spyridon with scenes from his life found at the Benaki Museum in Athens. This icon was painted by Theodore Poulakes between 1671 – 1675 AD. In the icon, Saint Spyridon is depicted on a throne and around him are various scenes from his life. We see depicted his ordination to the episcopate, his journey on horseback to the First Ecumenical Council with his disciple Triphyllius and his refutation of the heretic Arius. His miraculous healing of the Emperor Constantine in Antioch is presented in three phases: in the Emperor’s dream, Constantine giving thanks to the Saint, and the Saint teaching and baptising unbelievers. The Saint’s many miracles are also depicted, such as how he turned a snake into a golden decoration, the time that he reversed the flow of a river, the resurrection of his daughter Irene, his calling down of rain in time of drought and his destruction of the idols in Alexandria, where the Saint is shown praying before the idols as they fall down from their pedestals.
