Outside the walls of Jerusalem, upon the rock of Golgotha, Christ is portrayed crucified and in His final moments as He takes his last breath and hangs His head. His body is broken and naked, wearing only a cloth around His waist. To the right of the Cross stands the Mother of God in lamentation, her hair untied and her hands outstretched toward her Son. Before her, we see the beloved disciple John the Theologian weeping. At the base of the Cross, there is a small cave that contains a skull and some bones which, according to the tradition, belong to Adam. It is said that when Christ’s blood was poured out, the remains of Adam were redeemed from the curse that weighed heavy on the whole human race. The Passion of Christ is commemorated on Good Friday.
