In the icon of the Raising of Lazarus, Christ and His disciples are shown on the right side of the image. He extends His hand in blessing while commanding Lazarus to come out of the tomb. Lazarus’ sisters Martha and Mary have fallen before Him to kiss His feet while weeping tears of gratitude. On the other side of the icon, two men are shown helping Lazarus, still wrapped in funerary shrouds, come out of the tomb. In the distance, amidst the mountains, a crowd of Jews is coming from Bethania to behold and marvel at the resurrection of Lazarus who had been dead for four days. The Resurrection of Lazarus is celebrated by the Orthodox Church two days before Holy Week.
