In the icon of the Nativity, we behold a rocky cave and Christ as an infant in swaddling clothes laying in a manger within. The Divine Infant is kept warm by the animals. The Mother of God and Saint Joseph the Betrothed offer Him their worship on bended knee. Above the mountains, the three Magi are depicted bringing their gifts, and an angel proclaims the Birth of the Saviour to a shepherd. In the background, two choirs of singing angels are portrayed, and in the heavens a star shines red beams of light upon the new-born Christ. The Nativity of Christ is celebrated on December 25th.
