Saints Joachim and Anna are the parents of the Most Holy Theotokos. Joachim was a descendant of Judah and David. Having forfeited the throne, he lived privately in Jerusalem, where he had a mansion with a royal garden. He married Anna, daughter of Matthew the Priest of the tribe of Levi. So the couple had a wonderful life - Joachim died at the age of 92, and Anna died 11 months after Joachim at the age of 83. It is worth noting, however, that the couple miraculously gave birth to the Theotokos at the age of 80 for Joachim and 70 for Anna. The Synaxis of the righteous parents of the Theotokos, according to ecclesiastical tradition, was appointed the day after the Birth of the Theotokos, because they became ambassadors of the world’s salvation with the birth of the Theotokos. Work of the iconographer Vegkos Ioannis.
