Saint Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles, was king of the Russians and son of the prince of Kiev, Svetoslav. He was born in the year 958 AD. His mother was named Malousa and was originally a servant of the Queen Saint Olga. When Vladimir ascended the throne of Kiev, he was a pagan and was guided by the principles of that religion. Later on, however, through the fervent prayers of his holy grandmother and the light from above, he came to belief in Christ and was baptised in Kiev. He baptised many Russian Christians and built two beautiful churches in Kiev. His life was radically changed. He became a true Christian and assisted greatly in the spread of Christianity. He reposed in peace on the 15th of July in the year 1015 AD.
