During the Crucifixion, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was arrested, put on trial by Pontius Pilate and ultimately crucified. After interrogating Him in a variety of ways and declaring twice that Jesus was innocent, Pilate condemned Him to death in order to please the Jews. Jesus was handed over to Roman soldiers, stripped of His garments, made to wear a purple roble, crowned with a crown of thorns, made to hold a reed for a sceptre, and mockingly worshipped. They spat upon Him and struck His face and body. Afterwards, wearing His normal garments and carrying the Cross, He went to Golgotha, the place of condemnation. There He was crucified alongside two thieves. Around the ninth hour, He declared “It is finished”, and gave up His spirit. These terrible and salvific sufferings of our Lord Jesus Christ are honoured each year on Great and Holy Friday.
