Saint Kyriaki was the daughter of Dorotheos and Eusebia. They were childless, but God granted them to have a child. It was born on a Sunday (Kyriaki in Greek); for this reason, her parents named her Kyriaki. During Diocletian’s persecution in 282, her parents were arrested, and after interrogation they were tortured and beheaded by the duke Justus. Kyriaki, however, was sent to the governor Hilarianus, who reminded her that her beautiful body was to be enjoyed not tortured. Her vocal response, that she was and would remain Christian, angered Hilarianus. He tortured her and order that she be beheaded. However, just before the sword fell, she gave up her spirit to the Lord in prayer. She is commemorated on 7 July. This original icon was painted on Mt. Athos, by the monks of the Holy Koutloumousian Cell of Saint John the Theologian.
