Saint Larissa came from Gotha, Germany and lived during the 4th century AD. Her parents were Christians, and she was raised to love the Lord from the years of her childhood. In 363, with ascent to power of a new leader, the mass persecutions of Christians began in the region where Larissa lived. Christians could only pray at night in their homes. Until 375 AD when Saint Larissa went to the church before 300 onlookers, where she kneeled and prayed fervently to Christ. Suddenly, outside of the church, solders arrived bearing pagan idols to be worshipped, threatening to burn down the church. Not a single one of the 300 Christians present abandoned the church and Larissa persisted in her prayer until her final moment, when the church collapsed burying all of those inside as martyrs.
