Saint Calliope was born in 230 AD in Rome. She was distinguished by both the beauty of her soul and body. She rejected with disgust every marriage proposal she received, because she wished to dedicate her life exclusively to Christ. The emperor Decius, a terrible persecutor of the Christians, was astonished when Calliope was arrested and brought before him. Indeed, he tried with much flattery and many promises to weaken her will so that she would deny her faith. However, she confessed her faith in Christ, and so the enraged tyrant ordered that she be whipped mercilessly. Immediately afterward, they had her skin cut open with swords and the wounds burned closed. A little after, she was given relief from her pain by beheading. Her memory is honoured on the 8th of June. Work of the iconographic studio of the Brotherhood Ch.E.
