She was the mother of ten children, many of which went on to become Saints of the Church, such as Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Peter of Sebaste, Macrina the Younger and the monk Naucratius. Emmelia dealt with the many difficulties in her life through exemplary faith and patience. She raised her children by showing them what a life is like in accordance with the word of God. Her life came to a peaceful end as a nun under the spiritual guidance of her own daughter, Saint Macrina, as her Abbess. Her memory is honoured on the 30th of May.
