Saint Elpis (Hope) was one of the daughters of Saint Sophia (Wisdom), who along with her two other daughters Piste (Faith) and Agape (Love), lived in Rome during the reign of the Emperor Hadrian. As soon as the Emperor was informed that the four women were Christians, he ordered their arrest. Once they had isolated the mother, they began to interrogate the daughters. When she was brought before the emperor, the ten-year-old Elpis, told him that the tortures to come were worth enduring, because they have their hope completely on God. Then, the emperor ordered her beheading. Her memory is celebrated along with that of her mother and sisters on the 17th of September. Work of ARTIS GILDING AND RESTORING.
