Saint Alexandra was the wife of the emperor Diocletian. While her husband was no stranger to blood and violence, she was a lover of tranquillity and a compassionate woman. In 303 AD, during the martyrdom of the Holy Great-Martyr George, she felt within herself inspired and urged toward faith in Christ. She confessed her new faith to her husband. In response, he decreed her imprisonment. Not wishing to add to the burden of her husband’s sins, Saint Alexandra prayed that God would take her soul while she was still in prison, and her prayer was fulfilled. Her memory is honoured on the 21st of April. Work of ARTIS GILDING AND RESTORING.
