The Apostle Luke offered to humanity two great treasures: the Holy Gospel bearing his name and the Acts of the Apostles. He was also the first iconographer. Some of his holy icons have survived even to the present day, such as the icon of the Theotokos at the Monastery of Mega Spilaio (the Great Cave) in the Peloponnese, Theotokos of the Monastery of Sumela (Panagia Soumela) in Kastania in Veroia and the Theotokos of Mount Kykkos in Cyprus. He preached the Gospel throughout Greece. His life finally came to an end in Thebes, where his tomb is found.
